Part 1
For the SMC, I decided to cover the plumage issue with captive corvids. I have never owned a pet bird before so a lot of this was new information to me as well, but I think I did a good job summarizing the important parts. Of course caring for a wild animals requires much more care, especially if they are injured, but with the right information anyone can help to care for these birds. I explained how the corvids are worldwide so it may be possible for anyone to see an injured one in the wild. I found my information for my infographic through @Corvid Isle on Twitter, and they are one of the organizations I did some research on.
I think my best two tweets were the first ones where I linked an article on Corvid Isle's blog that talked about the plumage issue in captive corvids. It was very concise and informative, and they even recommended some brands that are trusted to help sick corvids by supplying them with vitamin and calcium supplements. I also talked about the cages and what Corvid Isle recommended to help the birds not injure their wings further than they are, as well how to encourage hygiene and preening in the birds.
Part 2
For the AP essay, I want to be sure to cite my sources correctly and paraphrase rather than directly quote. I want to focus mainly on ethos since it is a scholarly essay and use the most credible professionals in their respective fields. Next, I want to use logos from my credible sources to formulate my argument even more. Last, I will use pathos as minimum as possible since the field is still a bit new to the concept of animals having emotion. While I do not personally believe animals are emotionless or unintelligent, I want to try and stick to what is already considered "acceptable" in the field.
Part 3
This week I ended up reviewing my classmate Hongxu Lin's paper. He had written about dogs and how various different conditions could lead to them exhibiting certain behaviors such as anxiety or aggressiveness. As a dog owner myself, I was intrigued to know if I had somehow trained them wrong or did something to unintentionally bring stress to them. Hongxu was very informative and cited his sources which helped me in understanding what his topic was. The three biggest factors that Hongxu talked about was fear, age and illness, and body size. The best advice I could give was to include the researchers more in his paper and to explain their research in order to better explain the results to the audience. Besides that, Hongxu did a great job and picked an interesting topic to cover!
That's all for this week!
Signing off for now...
